Khaleda Zia — A Distinguished Living History of Bangladesh’s Political Transformation
The BNP Chairperson and national leader, Begum Khaleda Zia, is no longer with us. We are deeply saddened.
She passed away today, Tuesday, at 6:00 a.m., while under treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka (Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un). She was 80 years old.
Khaleda Zia was a living history of Bangladesh’s political transformation. With her passing, the country today has lost its beloved leader and is left speechless. The conclusion of a long, struggle-filled, and eventful political chapter has occurred, one that will remain unforgettable in the democratic history of Bangladesh.
Her emergence in post-independence Bangladeshi politics marked a historic turning point. Through times of hardship, political instability, and struggles against authoritarianism, she established herself as a resolute and uncompromising leader.
